Upgraded Colorism Coaching

I’m offering a new course for individuals who want to expand on their learning, growth, and healing after or while reading my book Colorism: The Politics of Skin Tone and How We Get Free. This is a refined system developed over years of studying, teaching, and coaching how to unlearn and heal from colorism. I’ve designed the curriculum and structured the course to work for people of any race or color.

Building the Café Community

Things are evolving here, as I’ve been making room to serve you more content and more in-depth content by pairing the weekly newsletter articles with weekly posts in the new virtual Café community. Some of what you usually see in emails will now be shared on the community page throughout the week. This allows more space in emails to expound on the Flavor of the Week segment.

If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s free access to multiple features. But free access will go away for new members as the community grows, so get in now! Join from your phone for instructions on how to download the mobile app.

Flavor of the Week 😋 A Quest to Quench Your Thirst

Sometimes the soul gets parched when we get caught up in our heads and lose touch with our joy, fulfillment, purpose, or our sense of wonder and delight. These are like refreshing fruits that not only sustain and fuel us, but make our lives worth waking up to each day. It’s possible your soul has been thirsty for a refreshing drink of life. This week, find a way to take a nice long gulp of your heart’s authentic desire.

Our moon phase this week is a waxing quarter moon—the energy and light are building, gaining momentum, so it’s an active moon phase. And it’s in the sign of Sagittarius, the mutable fire sign also associated with active and lively movement, passion and joie de vivre.

Sagittarius is the world traveler, the philosopher and professor who has much wisdom and lots of great stories to tell from the many adventures they’ve had on their life journey. These travels and adventures may be external and physical, like visiting foreign countries or hiking the Grand Canyon. They may be local adventures in your own backyard, inner adventures of the imagination and creativity, or personal adventures like starting an eccentric new hobby.

The common denominator, regardless of location or activity, is that in addition to exploring new places, new ideas, new career paths, new people, or new hobbies, you inherently discover more of yourself and open new channels of self-discovery, self-knowing, self-belief, and self-expression.

This quarter moon, in conversation with the North Node of destiny, feels like embarking on a quest to quench your thirst for a new adventure of the self. Quenching your thirst is the analogy because Sagittarius is fire and heat, while the Moon is watery and cool.

The defining feature of a quarter moon phase is that it makes a 90 degree angle (a square) with the Sun. A square aspect is one of tension and sometimes conflicting forces. Some astrologers refer to these aspects as “crisis” points, not necessarily a terrible crisis, but moments that demand more of us, either demanding a decision or an action. That can come in a package we quite like, such as an invitation or opportunity. An example (out of infinite examples) could be learning about a grant application that’s perfect for you just two days before the submission deadline. You can decide to wait until next year, or decide to hustle up and go for it now.

Moon square the Sun (quarter moon) on an astrology chart

Yes, sometimes, a square might coincide with an unwelcomed crisis because life includes those as well. Keep in mind, though, that we have two quarter moons every month—one waxing after the new moon and one waning after the full moon. Not every moon, in fact most of them will not be momentous events that upend our entire lives or become the basis for a bestselling memoir. Most of these quarter moons may feel like average days.

Even an average day, though, can take you farther off course away from your dream, or it can bring you into greater alignment with your dreams, often through our pattern of daily choices and habits. The practice of tracking moon phases is just one way we can remain conscious and purposeful in moving through our everyday life. We can lean in and step up to live the fullest life we dare to dream of rather than passively drifting through life.

With a waxing quarter moon in Sagittarius, you might feel a spark of inspiration to truly live, to dive more fully into the sea of life. You might feel a familiar call to adventure. If it does feel familiar, consider previous moon phases that happened near the same degree of Sagittarius, such as the Sagittarius new moon we had on December 19, 2025. You can reflect on what was happening that week and whether it feels familiar now. And you can continue to track the unfolding of this adventure forward to the full moon in Sagittarius on June 18, 2027 or the following new moon on November 27, 2027. You see, cycles of adventure take time to unfold. And there are always cycles within and upon other cycles!

Moon sextile North Node on an astrology chart

This week’s waxing quarter moon in Sagittarius is also making a more agreeable aspect, a sextile, to the North Node in the sign of Aquarius. The North Node and South Node mark the path of eclipses, so we’re starting a cycle of eclipses in Aquarius and Leo. The Nodes and eclipses have long been associated with fated or destined events that help us change larger patterns in our lives.

This week’s quarter moon is definitely not an eclipse, but it’s in conversation with an area of our lives that’s about to undergo significant change. The conversation is a simpatico one! So focusing on and aligning with your dream—that which truly stirs your heart and inspires your soul’s growth and expansion—this week could put wind your sails toward that horizon line.

Every Tuesday, I’ll post journal prompts and affirmations inspired by our Flavor of the Week inside of the Café community.
