We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop… And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.

From “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., April 3, 1968, Memphis, TN

Hey Gorgeous,

Happy MLK Day, and welcome to the first day of Aquarius season! It’s kismet that for 2026 these two days are the same. And the day after a potent new moon in Capricorn laying the cornerstone of a new legacy… 🤌🏿

The zodiac sign of Aquarius is known as the humanitarian, the social collective, and our hopes and dreams for the future. When I looked at Martin Luther King Jr.’s birth chart, I noticed he had Mercury, the planet of communication, in his 10th house of Aquarius. That is a brilliant marker for someone who’s most famous reputation was his beautiful and powerful orations and public speeches about humanity, including his most quoted: “I Have a Dream.” Truly visionary.

The Sun in astrology represents our identity, our consciousness, and our self-actualization. Because Dr. King was born during Capricorn season, his Sun is in the sign of Capricorn, the sign of legacy. In his birth chart, his Sun is in the 9th house… the house of literal dreams, as well as philanthropy, philosophy, and one’s ideals and beliefs. So his identity and self-actualization involved all of those themes.

In his final speech, Dr. King says he’s “been to the mountaintop” and seen a future where we are free and harmonious, and he knowingly says that he may not live to see it. In dreams, being high on a mountain and being able to see far in all directions is literally a symbol for the gift of prophecy.

The more I connect the dots, the more plausible it seems that Dr. King was indeed clairvoyant and received prophetic dreams and visions.

(side note: Of course, we can honor his legacy without speculating this, but in this newsletter I try to normalize the idea of spiritual gifts rather than sensationalize them. For me, saying someone is clairvoyant is as everyday as saying someone is a writer or a singer.)

Pluto’s Parade + Power to (Transform) the People

There was one thing that puzzled the heck out of me while analyzing Dr. King’s birth chart—I couldn’t find Pluto. Pluto, the planet of power and transformation, is currently in the sign of Aquarius, and I wanted to understand the relationship between where Pluto is today and where it was when Dr. King was born. It turns out that when Dr. King was born in 1929, Pluto hadn’t been discovered yet. Pluto was discovered the following year on February 18, 1930, the very end of Aquarius season.

What these coinciding events suggest to me is that in the late 1920s and early 1930s, humanity was ready for a breakthrough, but one that was just an initial spark or glimmer of something that would come into sharper focus in the years and generations to follow.

This week, Pluto’s intensity is super charged because all of the personal planets—the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars—will all meet Pluto in the early part of Aquarius. I elaborate on what Pluto in Aquarius means for the next couple of decades in the video below, but here are two key ideas I want to highlight:

The transformation Pluto leads us through is not pretty or comfortable. Pluto is a planet that will bury you so you can grow deeper roots and cultivate the strength to sprout from the depths of any soil. Pluto demands we face the deepest truth and allow it to change us at our core. It asks us to let some aspect of ourselves die so that the next layer of our truth can be born again. Pluto wants you to take out the trash, have the bowel movement, clean the hair out of the drain, and compost the moldy fruit you forgot at the back of the fridge.

After death is rebirth. Ultimately, the discomfort of plutonian transformation helps us cultivate greater and deeper levels of authentic power.

This happens on the individual scale as well as the collective scale. It’s easy to focus on the gross and painful underworld that Pluto is revealing more and more of. But we must not forget that Pluto in Aquarius is helping to reveal this corrupt underbelly so that we might be transformed into a people that remember our true power. Pluto asks us to face the truth of what’s corrupt and to remember the truth that we have power. And in the sign of Aquarius, specifically, the people have power, if only they recognize it and claim it.

What I love to say is that we can transform our world from the inside out. It’s comfortable to think that only other people need to change. But transforming the world requires that we as people, individually and collectively, are also willing to transform ourselves. We are the world.

17. The Star - from the Manzel Tarot

In tarot, Aquarius is represented most directly by The Star card. She is the water bearer. The Star card holds the symbolism of Aquarian themes like visions, wishes, and glimpses into the future. She also symbolizes the immense strength and power of vulnerability required for true authenticity. She invites us to show up and let our lights shine, to be seen just as we are with nothing to hide.

In sequence, she follows chaos and destruction, offering a break in the storm clouds and shining a light of hope and healing on all who choose to look up.

Let Dr. King’s visionary prophecy ring in your hearts today: We’ve got some difficult days ahead… But we, as a people, will get to the promised land…
