Hello Love!
The time has finally come! My debut book, Colorism: The Politics of Skin Tone and How We Get Free is officially released in audiobook, ebook, and paperback this week. Tomorrow, July 7th, to be exact.
On the 10-year anniversary of Colorism Healing in 2023, I hosted a celebration dinner and community discussion in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. At that event, I said that the work of Colorism Healing would continue, but I didn’t know how or what that would look like. In the months leading up to that event I had several teary-eyed moments thinking about the future of this work. I knew in my soul that my work, my relationship to this work, and my role in this work was shifting and evolving.
A year after that 10-year anniversary dinner, I signed a major book contract with Legacy Lit.
When I wrote that first blog post on colorism in 2011 and when I officially launched Colorism Healing in 2013, I honestly had no idea that this was the trajectory I was on. Even though I very much identified as a writer, I wasn’t thinking about writing a book on the topic of colorism.
Now that I’m here, I understand how this book is the most beautiful flowering of all the years and all the work, the intellectual, emotional, and physical labor and the sacrifices made to create and sustain a multifaceted ecosystem dedicated to helping the world heal from and dismantle colorism.
I know now.
And I invite you to celebrate with me this brand new chapter! Here’s how you can participate in the celebration:
